Kurt Huggins
Head Designer
Kurt is an artist. His intellectual fascination with art, sociology, philosophy and biology informs everything he creates at thread®. Don’t ask how, it just does. Human interaction is his ultimate source of inspiration. At times, Kurt can be found staring at his computer screen or sketchpad for 4 or 5 intense hours almost popping up out of his chair when realizing his physical self. Back in reality, he is often surprised by his own work. He says "It's like being two people." This part scares his co-workers.
Kurt grew up in Atlanta, Georgia before moving up to New York City. His father was a commercial artist, so Kurt grew up drawing from a very young age. He always knew illustration and design was what he wanted to do. In school, he was the kid who drew really well, and that was cool with Kurt. He went on to the two-year program at Portfolio Center in Atlanta where he won The Seed Award [AIGA] For New Talent and was recently featured in CMYK magazine for his design of a J D Salinger book cover series. Before joining thread®, Kurt was a designer and illustrator for the Cartoon Network and TNT Networks.
When you meet Kurt, there’s one thing that sticks out in your mind immediately. His 4 inch auburn goatee. He says it makes him feel like a wizard. His recent claim to fame: He beat his dad in chess for the first time. First, he read up on strategy. Then he went to the battlefield prepared. Not once did he look his dad in the eyes, he just focused on the moves. Mr. Huggins won’t play chess with his son any more. Victory.
